These cards were created exclusively for Orelia by Katharina Nuss. Please read the poignant artists statement below.
"When my daughter went through cancer treatment 11 years ago, I always thought that if I ever made art about our family's experience, it would include a window in some form.
The window felt like a symbol for our being cut off from the "real" world of park playdates, walks, gardening and home routines—so many hours looking out of a hospital window, longing for normal life and spending time outside! So many hours spent cooped up at home, afraid to go anywhere for fear of her getting sick.
But it also felt like a symbol of hope. Trying to look out ahead into a future after cancer treatments, envisioning a normal childhood, normal family routines, and family canoe trips!
I am very aware that some families come out the other side with losses far beyond a year of stress, worry and disrupted family routines; the view out their window has fundamentally changed. I very much hope for a future where all children with cancer and their families can enjoy the gift of a return to normal life together like we did!"
