May Is Brain Tumour Awareness Month
The horrific shock of a brain tumour diagnosis was the spark that started the Orelia fire. Adrian, the son of our founder Sashira Gafic, was diagnosed with a paediatric brain tumour in June of 2020. The earth shattering news changed Adrian and his family forever.
May is the month dedicated to supporting the brain tumour community; those diagnosed, their caregivers, researchers, and medical teams.
Orelia is committed to donating profits from sales to paediatric cancer research, which includes brain tumours.
Paediatric Brain Tumour Facts
Brain tumours are the most common solid cancer in children.
Brain tumours are the deadliest cancers in children.
Brain tumours and their treatment often have lasting physical, cognitive, and psychological impacts on a patients life.
Signs and Symptoms of a Brain Tumour
Not everyone will display symptoms of a brain tumour, but those who do, will most likely develop one or many of the following:
Behavioural Changes
Cognitive Changes
Dizziness
Vision Changes
Headaches
Hearing changes
Nausea and vomiting in the morning
Seizures
Weakness or paralysis
For Adrain, morning vomiting is what prompted his parents to take him to the doctor to get checked out.
Extra symptoms in children also include excessive drinking and urinating, and early puberty. In infants, extra symptoms include loss of development milestones, and increasing head circumference.
